Food: No-Bake Energy Bites

No-Bake-Energy-Bites-Redo-3

The recipe calls for:

  • chocolate chips
  • toasted coconut
  • vanilla extract
  • peanut butter
  • old fashioned oats
  • honey (or agave nectar)
  • freshly ground flaxseed

No-Bake-Energy-Bites-Redo-4

To make the no bake energy bites, just stir all of those ingredients together until combined. (Or if you get tired of using a spoon, just use your hands. I do!)

No-Bake-Energy-Bites-Redo-5

Once the mixture is combined, pop it in the fridge for 10-20 minutes so that it will harden slightly. This will help make it easier to roll it into balls.

The best thing about this recipe is that it is super flexible as well. So if you are allergic to any of the ingredients, or if you are just looking for other substitution ideas, feel free to use:

  • Different (or no) chocolate: I generally use dark chocolate chips. But you can also substitute in any other kinds of chips (butterscotch, milk chocolate, white chocolate, cinnamon chips, etc.). Or if you are vegan, I recommend cacao nibs. Or if you don’t dig chocolate, you can leave this part out all together.
  • Different nut butter: If you are allergic to peanuts, feel free to substitute in any other kinds of nut butter, like almond buttersunflower seed butter, cashew butter, or others. (For a great tutorial on homemade nut butters, check out this great post from Tasty Yummies.)
  • Different sweetener: I really prefer honey in this recipe. But agave also works and is vegan, and some readers have had success with alternative sweeteners too.

Health: 10 Health Benefits Of Lemon

lemon

1. Clears Skin:
Lemon is an effective way to treat pesky breakouts. Before bed, use your finger or a cotton ball to apply lemon juice to problem areas. Rinse off with water the next morning to reveal glowing skin, thanks to that vitamin C!

2. Cures Calluses:
After a long day, help ease the pain of tired, callused feet with a little lemon. Mix together two tablespoons of lemon juice with two tablespoons of olive oil. Add a bit of baking soda to make a thick paste. Rub on your feet and rinse to reveal soft, supple skin!

3. Freshens Breath
Instead of chewing gum, freshen your mouth and breath by rinsing with freshly squeezed lemon juice (or chewing on a lemon slice!).

4. Helps You Fall Asleep Faster:
When combined with a calming herb like chamomile, lemon increases calmness, reduces anxiety and promotes sleep. Try a chamomile tea with a squirt of freshly squeezed lemon before bed. Sweet dreams!

 5. Gets Rid Of Varicose And Spider Veins:

To prep for warmer weather (and the showing of a bit more skin), massage 2-3 drops of lemon oil over affected areas to help reduce the appearance of those pesky veins.

6. Cures Sore Throats:
For instant relief, combine the juice of one lemon with one teaspoon of sea salt and one cup of warm water. Gargle with mixture three times a day for one minute.

7. Decreases Bloating:
Lemon water is known to help decrease bloating and aid in weight loss. Start your day off right by drinking a glass of lukewarm water and lemon before (or in place of!) your morning coffee.

8.Makes Nails Stronger And Brighter:

Lemon is essential for making brittle or yellowed nails beautiful again! Apply a mixture of lemon and olive oil to nails for strengthening and brightening benefits.

9. Cures Hangovers:
Did you indulge in one too many glasses of champagne last night? A glass of lemon water will stimulate the liver and help kick that hangover to the curb!

10. Whitens Teeth:
Teeth-whitening treatments can be super expensive. Try this homemade alternative instead! Mix lemon juice with baking soda and apply to your teeth with a Q-tip. (Warning: this is a strong solution, so make sure to only leave it on for a minute!) Gently scrub off with your toothbrush to reveal whiter teeth!
